Urena (9-9) earned the win over the Yankees on Monday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks while striking out eight batters over seven innings.
The only run Urena allowed came on a Spencer Jones solo homer in the fifth inning. Aside from that small hiccup, the rookie hurler shined against a tough offense, racking up 16 whiffs while tying a season high with eight punchouts. Perhaps most promisingly, Urena didn't issue a single walk after handing out multiple free passes in each of his previous six outings, including five his last time out versus Cleveland. Urena tossed three quality starts over six appearances in August and finished with a 3.30 ERA and 32:15 K:BB across 30 innings during the month. He's more than held his own during his first MLB campaign, posting a 2.85 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 120:64 K:BB through 25 appearances (23 starts) spanning 123.1 frames.

Urena allowed three runs on five hits and five walks while striking out three over 3.2 innings in Tuesday's 8-6 extra-inning loss to Cleveland. He didn't factor into the decision.
Urena was given plenty of early run support as the Angels jumped ahead to a 5-0 lead, but he struggled badly with his command and couldn't pitch deep enough to qualify for the win. The right-hander issued five walks and allowed Cleveland to begin chipping away at the deficit before departing in the fourth inning. Urena threw just 50 of his 89 pitches for strikes, and as a result, his ERA rose to 2.94. He's scheduled to make his next start at home against the Yankees.

Urena has had a rollercoaster month, going 2-2 with seven runs allowed over 19.1 innings. The right-hander didn't pitch poorly Wednesday, but he was tagged for a Christian Vazquez solo shot in the third inning and two more runs in the fourth to send him to the loss. Urena is now at a 2.80 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 109:59 K:BB through 112.2 innings over 23 games (21 starts) on the year. He's lined up to make his next start at home against the Guardians.
Angels' Walbert Urena: Rebounds in win over Rangers

Urena (8-8) allowed two hits and two walks while striking out five over six shutout innings to earn the win over the Rangers on Thursday.
Urena threw 65 of 100 pitches for strikes in this rebound performance. He had been tagged for four runs over 2.1 innings in his previous start, but Thursday's outing was more in line with what he's shown throughout the year. The rookie has a 2.67 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 102:57 K:BB through 107.2 innings over 22 games (20 starts). Urena's continuing high walk rate remains a concern -- he's issued 20 free passes over 36 innings since the start of July, but he's shown an ability to limit damage. His next start is projected to be on the road in Houston.
Urena (7-8) took the loss Saturday, coughing up four runs on four hits and three walks over 2.1 innings as the Angels were routed 7-0 by the Marlins. He struck out two.
The rookie right-hander faced the minimum six batters through the first two innings, but the wheels came off in the third, and Urena got the hook after just 50 pitches (30 strikes) in his shortest appearance since moving into the rotation in mid-April. The rough outing ended a streak of three straight quality starts for Urena, and he allowed just three earned runs total over his last five outings. He'll take a 2.83 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 97:55 K:BB through 101.2 innings into his next start, which is set to come at home next week against the Rangers.

Urena wasn't quite as stingy as opposing starter Jacob Misiorowski when it came to baserunners, but Urena was able to avoid giving up a run. Over his last seven outings, Urena has held an opponent to one run or less on six occasions. He's allowed just 10 runs across 37 innings with a 37:17 K:BB in that span. For the season, the rookie right-hander has a 2.54 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 95:52 K:BB across 99.1 innings through 20 appearances (18 starts). His next start is projected to be on the road in Miami.

Aside from a solo homer by Taylor Trammell in the fourth inning, Urena kept the Astros offense quiet and was in line for the win before a ninth-inning implosion by the Angels bullpen. The right-hander's impressive rookie season has continued into July, as he's posted a 1.25 ERA and 1.02 WHIP across 21.2 innings (four starts) this month. Overall, Urena owns a 6-7 record with a 2.70 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 88:49 K:BB across 93.1 innings (19 appearances). His next outing is tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Brewers.

Urena had fallen short of the six-inning mark in each of his last four starts, though he gave up a modest eight runs over 19 innings in that span. The rookie right-hander was able to limit the damage to a single run in the fifth inning Tuesday after running into a little trouble. He has a 2.78 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 83:47 K:BB through 87.1 innings over 18 games (16 starts) this season. Urena is lined up to make his next start at home versus the Astros. Considering he threw 145 innings across two levels of the minors in 2025, Urena doesn't appear to be on track for any significant workload limitations over the remainder of the campaign.
Urena allowed one hit and five walks while striking out three over four scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Wednesday.
Urena's inefficiency (52 strikes on 90 pitches) ultimately kept him from ending his winless stretch, which is now at three games. However, aside from a seven-run disaster versus the Athletics on June 26, he's largely pitched well despite some control problems. Urena is now at a 2.88 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 78:46 K:BB through 81.1 innings over 17 games (15 starts) during his rookie campaign.
