Texans' Marte Mapu: Traded to Houston
The Patriots are trading Mapu to the Texans, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
New England informed Mapu on Tuesday of plans to cut him, but it appears Houston stepped in before such a transaction could be completed. Per Alexander, the trade involves a swap of late-round picks. Mapu totaled 25 tackles (18 solo), five passes defensed (including one interception) and one forced fumble across 17 regular-season appearances in 2025, playing 120 snaps on defense and 254 snaps on special teams.

Marte Mapu: Let go by Patriots
New England informed Mapu on Tuesday that he will be cut, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
A 2023 third-round pick, Mapu had one year remaining on his rookie deal. He suited up for all 17 regular-season games in 2025 but handled a career-low 120 snaps on defense, compared to a career-high 254 snaps on special teams. He had 25 tackles (18 solo), five passes defensed (including one interception) and one forced fumble.

Mapu (hip) is active for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Broncos.
Mapu was battling through a hip injury during practice, but the third-year pro was given the green light to play in Sunday's Championship Game. He has served primarily on special teams this season and has not recorded a tackle across the Patriots' two playoff games.

Mapu (hip) is questionable for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Broncos, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
This is a new injury for Mapu. Most of his opportunities this season have come on special teams, though he may rotate in for a few snaps on defense at linebacker if healthy. Mapu played one defensive snap in each of the Patriots' previous two playoff games.

Mapu (neck) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
Mapu sustained a neck injury in the Patriots' 2024 season finale, but it now appears he's fully recovered. The Sacramento State product played a career-high 466 defensive snaps across 10 games in 2024, tallying 46 total tackles, including 0.5 sacks, six passes defended (with one interception) and three forced fumbles. He's expected to compete for a depth role in the Patriots' secondary throughout the summer.

Mapu tallied seven tackles (three solo), two pass defenses (including one interception) and one forced fumble during the Patriots' 24-21 loss to the Bills.
Mapu registered his first interception of the regular season Sunday when he picked off a deep ball from Josh Allen intended for Keon Coleman midway through the second quarter. Mapu nearly logged his second interception on the Bills' next offensive drive when he broke up a pass from Allen intended for Dalton Kincaid. Mapu was a healthy inactive for the Patriots' last two games, but he played 42 defensive snaps due to the absences of Jabrill Peppers (hamstring) and Marcus Jones (hip). Mapu will look to carry his momentum into the Patriots' Week 17 clash against the Chargers on Saturday, Dec. 28.
