Luinder Avila KC SP
Royals' Luinder Avila: Set for spot start
1h agoAvila will draw the start on the mound Friday against the Brewers, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Avila was called up from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, and he will now be tasked with taking the bump in the Royals' series opener against Milwaukee on Friday. The right-hander will replace Michael Wacha (illness) on the mound as Wacha is dealing with an apparent illness. Avila posted 1.29 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 14 innings in 13 appearances with Kansas City in 2025, and Friday's start will be his first as a major-leaguer.

Michael Wacha KC SP
Royals' Michael Wacha: Dealing with illness
1h agoWacha (illness) will be forced to miss his scheduled start Friday against the Brewers, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
Wacha is dealing with an apparent illness and as a result, he will now have his turn skipped in the Royals' rotation. The 34-year-old will shift his sights on being ready to go for his next tentative turn on the mound in Cleveland next week. In the meantime, Kansas City recalled Luinder Avila from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, and he's expected to toe the rubber in the team's series opener against Milwaukee at home Friday.

Nick Lodolo CIN SP
Reds' Nick Lodolo: Exits rehab start early
1h agoLodolo (blister) exited his minor-league rehab start with Single-A Daytona in the third inning, Pat Brennan of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Lodolo was looking to move past the blister on his left index finger by making one start with Single-A Daytona, but the blister reared its ugly head with two outs in the top of the third, forcing the southpaw out of the contest. The hope was that the 28-year-old would be able to return to the Reds in the coming days, but that now appears to be unlikely. Lodolo retired all eight batters he faced in order Thursday, striking out four in the process, and he finished having thrown just 40 pitches when he was scheduled to throw between 60 and 65.
-
Patrick Bailey SF C
Giants' Patrick Bailey: On bench Thursday
2h agoBailey isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Bailey will take a seat Thursday after going just 2-for-18 (.111) with six strikeouts through his first six games of the year. Daniel Susac will catch instead for left-handed starter Robbie Ray and bat eighth.
-
Blade Tidwell SF P
Giants' Blade Tidwell: Recalled from Sacramento
3h agoThe Giants recalled Tidwell from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
After being sent down to Triple-A to begin the regular season, Tidwell will quickly receive a call-up to the majors to replace the injured Jose Butto (forearm). Tidwell, 24, gave up 15 earned runs over 15 innings with the Mets last year, but he kicked off the 2026 campaign by striking out three batters over 2.2 scoreless innings with Sacramento.
-
Jose Butto SF SP
Giants' Jose Butto: Lands on IL
3h agoThe Giants placed Butto on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right forearm fatigue, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Butto made an early exit from his appearance against the Padres on Wednesday due to a forearm issue, and he'll now spend at least the next couple of weeks on the injured list getting his forearm back to full strength. Blade Tidwell will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to take Butto's place in the bullpen.
-
Patrick Bailey SF C
Giants' Patrick Bailey: On bench Thursday
2h agoBailey isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Bailey will take a seat Thursday after going just 2-for-18 (.111) with six strikeouts through his first six games of the year. Daniel Susac will catch instead for left-handed starter Robbie Ray and bat eighth.

Thayron Liranzo DET C
Tigers' Thayron Liranzo: Cleared for baseball activities
7h agoLiranzo (oblique) has resumed baseball activities, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Liranzo went down with a right oblique strain in early March but is ready to ramp things back up. The 22-year-old will be assigned to Double-A Erie once he's physically ready, but he looks to be multiple weeks away from being cleared to play in games.
-
Carter Jensen KC C
Royals' Carter Jensen: Scratched from Thursday's lineup
8h agoJensen was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup against the Twins, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Jensen is presumably dealing with some sort of injury, though the Royals have not revealed the reason for why he was scratched. More information should be available on Jensen's status soon. Jac Caglianone moved from right field into the designated-hitter spot in Jensen's place, and Lane Thomas entered the lineup in right field.
-
Christian Vazquez HOU C
Astros' Christian Vazquez: Homers Wednesday
9h agoVazquez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Red Sox.
Making his second start of the season, Vazquez extended Houston's lead to 6-4 with a homer off Danny Coulombe to lead off the seventh inning, his first long ball this year. Vasquez is now 2-for-7 to open the campaign after slashing .189/.271/.274 with three homers and 14 RBI across 214 plate appearances with the Twins in 2025.
-
Ryan Jeffers MIN C
Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Taking seat Thursday
10h agoJeffers is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Kansas City.
It's a routine day off for Jeffers, who has now started four of the first six games behind the dish. It will be Victor Caratini doing the catching in Thursday's series finale.
-
Liam Hicks MIA C
Marlins' Liam Hicks: Goes yard Wednesday
15h agoHicks went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, two additional RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's win over the White Sox.
Hicks is enjoying an excellent start to the season, hitting safely in four of his first five games while already leaving the yard on three occasions. With three homers, 12 RBI and eight runs scored in 19 plate appearances through five games, Hicks should cool down sooner rather than later. However, it wouldn't be a stretch to call him one of the hottest bats in the National League over the first week of the regular season.
-
Ben Rice NYY 1B
Yankees' Ben Rice: Swats first homer Wednesday
5h agoRice went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, two total runs and two total RBI in a 5-3 win against Seattle on Wednesday.
Rice was the only Yankees player with multiple hits in the victory, and both of his knocks went for extra bases. The slugger kicked off the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning and plated New York's final run with a 427-foot solo shot in the ninth. Rice is off to a strong start this season, slashing .412/.524/.765 with four extra-base hits, five RBI, six runs and a 4:3 BB:K through five games.
-
Nate Lowe CIN 1B
Reds' Nathaniel Lowe: Makes first start
13h agoLowe served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Pirates.
Lowe made his first start of the season and managed to contribute against Pittsburgh righty Paul Skenes. When the left-handed Mason Montgomery relieved Skenes in the sixth inning, Lowe was replaced by a pinch hitter. With the hot-hitting Sal Stewart at first base and Eugenio Suarez at DH, there haven't been many opportunities for Lowe early in the regular season.
-
Jac Caglianone KC 1B
Royals' Jac Caglianone: Scores three times in big win
20h agoCaglianone went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in Wednesday's 13-9 win over the Twins.
Caglianone has logged multiple hits in two of five games so far. The outfielder has added two doubles, one walk and four strikeouts over 15 plate appearances. The 23-year-old struggled to a .157/.237/.295 slash line with seven home runs, 18 RBI, 19 runs scored and a stolen base over 62 contests during 2025 in his first taste of major-league action. He has some work to do to prove he's taken a step up from last year, but aside from the strikeout problem, he's on the right track early in 2026. Caglianone is filling a strong-side platoon role in right field.
-
Freddie Freeman LAD 1B
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Launches first homer
21h agoFreeman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Guardians.
Freeman has had a slow start to the season, going 5-for-24 (.208) over his first six games. He's logged an extra-base hit in two of his last four contests, however, including his ninth-inning homer Wednesday to keep the Dodgers from getting shut out. The slow start among the Dodgers' top hitters is a little concerning, but the defending champions should be fine in the long run, and Freeman's move down to the cleanup spot versus right-handed pitchers should benefit his run production this year.
-
Paul Goldschmidt NYY 1B
Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Belts three-run homer in win
23h agoGoldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 5-3 win against Seattle.
The veteran first baseman drew a rare start versus a right-hander with Giancarlo Stanton getting the day off, launching his first homer of the campaign. Goldschmidt is still expected to see most of his playing time against left-handed pitching in 2026, as Ben Rice is set to handle the bulk of the reps at first base while Stanton receives the majority of the action at designated hitter.
-
C.J. Kayfus CLE 1B
Guardians' CJ Kayfus: Playing time slipping
1d agoKayfus is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.
After starting three of the first four games of the season, Kayfus is now out of the lineup for the third straight tilt. Angel Martinez and Daniel Schneemann -- who are starting in left and center field, respectively -- appear to have inched past Kayfus in the outfield pecking order at the moment.
-
Brice Turang MIL 2B
Brewers' Brice Turang: Homers in win
9h agoTurang went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run, a walk and a second run scored in Wednesday's 8-2 victory over the Rays.
Turang got the Brewers on the board in the third inning, launching his first homer of the season off Drew Rasmussen to tie the game at 2-2. Turang has gotten off to a hot start this season, going 9-for-22 with five extra-base hits, a 1.227 OPS and a pair of steals in his first six games.
-
Marcus Semien NYM 2B
Mets' Marcus Semien: Scuffling to begin year
10h agoSemien went 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts in Wednesday's extra-innings loss to the Cardinals.
The 35-year-old second baseman missed chances to play hero for the Mets in both the ninth and 11th innings, recording the final out with runners in scoring position each time. Semien is struggling to find a rhythm at the plate to begin his first season in New York, going 2-for-20 with a double, two RBI and a 3:8 BB:K through six games, but his still-excellent defense will keep him in an everyday role for now and provide him with plenty of leash to figure things out.
-
Tim Tawa ARI 2B
Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Gets outfield start
12h agoTawa started in left field and went 1-for-3 with a double in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Detroit.
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo loaded up the lineup with righties against tough Detroit lefty Tarik Skubal. Alek Thomas was on the bench while Jordan Lawlar (center field) and Tawa were in the outfield. Tawa wears many gloves on the diamond and will toggle between infield and outfield for the Diamondbacks. Wednesday was his second start of the season and first in the outfield. He also served as the DH on Opening Day when Pavin Smith (elbow) was scratched.
-
Davis Schneider TOR 2B
Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Knocks in run Wednesday
16h agoSchneider went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Rockies.
Schneider has gone 2-for-5 so far in the series, but he's done damage every time he's recorded a hit with a home run and three total RBI. Schneider's playing time has been sporadic so far and he only has seven at-bats across three games to open the season, and that inconsistent role limits his upside in most formats as a bench option in a deep Toronto roster.
-
Nick Gonzales PIT 2B
Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Drives in pair
20h agoGonzales went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Reds.
Gonzales has been in the lineup for all six games early in the season, though he was moved up the order to hit second Tuesday. Both of his knocks came late in the game, highlighted by a two-RBI single in the ninth inning. Gonzales has been solid to start the campaign, collecting at least one hit in five of six contests while driving in five and scoring four runs.
-
Jonathan India KC 2B
Royals' Jonathan India: Delivers grand slam in win
20h agoIndia went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 13-9 win over the Twins.
India went 1-for-10 over his first three games of the season. He delivered the biggest hit in this contest with a sixth-inning slam to put the Royals ahead 12-1, runs that ended up being valuable after the Twins made a late surge. India had just nine homers over 136 regular-season games in 2025, and his .669 OPS last year was a career low. He's still hitting just .200 (3-for-15) with four strikeouts over four contests this season, but India is seeing a starting role at second base over utility man Nick Loftin while Michael Massey (calf) is on the mend.
-
Graham Pauley MIA 3B
Marlins' Graham Pauley: Two doubles in Wednesday's rout
11h agoPauley went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the White Sox.
The 25-year-old played his part in a 10-0 rout, collecting his first extra-base hits of the season. With Christopher Morel (oblique) and Kyle Stowers (hamstring) on the shelf and Griffin Conine (illness) unavailable as well Wednesday, Pauley got the start at first base while Connor Norby was the DH and Javier Sanoja handled the hot corner. As Pauley puts his spring forearm injury further behind him and gets back up to speed, however, he could emerge as the Marlins' preferred option at third base against right-handed pitching. Through five games to begin the season, he's gone 3-for-13 with a run scored, an RBI and a 0:5 BB:K.
-
Caleb Durbin BOS 3B
Red Sox's Caleb Durbin: Hitless in loss
11h agoDurbin went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to Houston.
Durbin is one of many Red Sox hitters to have stumbled out of the gate. Following a fifth consecutive hitless performance, Boston's primary third baseman is 0-for-18 with five strikeouts and one walk.
-
Josh Jung TEX 3B
Rangers' Josh Jung: Logs first hits
12h agoJung went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to Baltimore.
Jung, who returned to the lineup after a getting a day off Tuesday, logged his first hits of the season and drove in his first run. He was hitless over his first 18 at-bats before a run-scoring single in the fourth inning. Tuesday's rest day may have been the ticket for Jung, who registered three hard-hit batted-ball events, per Statcast.
-
Eugenio Suarez CIN 3B
Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Makes impact off bench
13h agoSuarez went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to PIttsburgh.
Suarez homered as a pinch hitter and finished out the game as the designated hitter. The blast was his second of the season, upped his RBI total to six and extended a hit streak to five games. The Reds are off Thursday before hitting the road to begin a three-game set against the Rangers.
-
Tyler Freeman COL 3B
Rockies' Tyler Freeman: Knocks in game winner
20h agoFreeman went 1-for-1 with an RBI on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
Freeman was activated from the injured list before Wednesday's game, though he wasn't in the starting lineup. He entered the contest as a pinch hitter in the 10th inning and drove in the game-winning run with a single. Freeman figures to occupy a utility role while only earning sporadic plate appearances.
-
Jose Ramirez CLE 3B
Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Clubs first homer of season
21h agoRamirez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Dodgers.
Ramirez is still looking for his first multi-hit effort of the campaign, but he was able to swat his first homer Wednesday to give the Guardians some breathing room in the eighth inning. The third baseman has added two doubles, five RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored over seven games this season. Ramirez is hitting just .143 so far, but he's faced strong pitching staffs in the first two series of Cleveland's season. It shouldn't be long before he locks in as a well-rounded force at the plate and on the basepaths.
-
Ryan Ritter COL SS
Rockies' Ryan Ritter: Optioned to Triple-A
3h agoThe Rockies optioned Ritter to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.
Ritter claimed a spot at the end of Colorado's bench to begin the regular season, but he'll now head back to Triple-A after beginning the season 1-for-7 with a run scored and three strikeouts. His demotion frees up a spot on the Rockies' active roster a day before Mickey Moniak (finger) is eligible to return from the injured list.
-
Konnor Griffin PIT SS
Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Working on $140 million extension
5h agoThe Pirates and Griffin are working to finalize a nine-year, $140 million contract extension, Buster Olney of ESPN reports.
The Pirates already announced that Griffin would be called up to make his major-league debut in Friday's home opener against the Orioles, and it appears the debut will be accompanied by a lucrative, long-term deal. He won't turn 20 until later this month, so Griffin will still be in his 20s when he gets his first crack at free agency. Griffin is set to take over as the Pirates' everyday shortstop after slashing .336/.420/.530 with 21 home runs and 68 stolen bases in his first 127 minor-league games.
-
J.P. Crawford SEA SS
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Activated from IL
5h agoThe Mariners reinstated Crawford (shoulder) from the injured list Thursday.
Crawford dealt with shoulder problems throughout spring training, and he landed on the injured list at the start of the regular season after receiving a cortisone shot to treat the injury. After playing a full rehab game at Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday without any issues, he'll now rejoin the active roster and slot in as Seattle's primary shortstop -- at least until the club is ready to promote top prospect Colt Emerson. Ryan Bliss was optioned to Tacoma in a corresponding move.
-
Ryan Bliss SEA SS
Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Optioned to Triple-A
5h agoThe Mariners optioned Bliss to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.
His removal from the active roster clears the way for the return of J.P. Crawford (shoulder). Bliss' playing time early on in the season has been sparse, and he has struck out in both of his plate appearances. The 26-year-old missed nearly all of the 2025 season due to injury, so he's probably best served at this juncture getting regular playing time at Tacoma.
-
Hao Yu Lee DET SS
Tigers' Hao-Yu Lee: Ready for rehab assignment
7h agoLee (oblique) is set to begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Lee has been slowed by an early-March left oblique strain but is ready to test things out in a game setting. Once he completes his rehab assignment, the infielder will report to Triple-A Toledo. Lee was added to the Tigers' 40-man roster over the offseason and could debut at some point in 2026.
-
Brooks Lee MIN SS
Twins' Brooks Lee: Absent from Thursday's lineup
10h agoLee is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Kansas City.
Lee will receive a day off after getting off to a 2-for-13 start with five strikeouts at the plate. Tristan Gray will fill in at shortstop as the Twins try to avoid the sweep.
-
Billy Cook PIT OF
Pirates' Billy Cook: Dispatched to Indianapolis
3h agoThe Pirates optioned Cook to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
Cook will move to the minors in order to clear a spot on the active roster for top prospect Konnor Griffin, who is slated to make his MLB debut against the Orioles on Friday. The 27-year-old Cook slashed .245/.321/.379 across 380 plate appearances at Indianapolis last year, and he'd be a candidate to return to Pittsburgh if one of the big club's outfielders go down with an injury.
-
James Tibbs LAD RF
Dodgers' James Tibbs: On fire at Triple-A
8h agoTibbs is hitting .545 with three home runs and a 5:3 K:BB in 25 plate appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
This is the first exposure to Triple-A pitching for the 23-year-old slugger, and while this current level of production is unsustainable (.643 BABIP), it is a carry over of Tibbs' impressive showing in spring training (1.053 OPS). He raked last year for the Dodgers at Double-A (155 wRC+ in 36 games) after failing to perform at Double-A with Boston (77 wRC+ in 30 games) earlier in the year. Tibbs has been a bat-first player dating back to when the Giants selected him No. 13 overall in 2024, and he hasn't always hit enough to profile at the bottom of the defensive spectrum, which is partly why he's on his third team. However, something seems to have clicked at the plate since Tibbs was traded to the Dodgers last summer as part of the return for Dustin May.

Jacob Young WAS CF
Nationals' Jacob Young: Swipes first bag of year
10h agoYoung went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Phillies.
Batting eighth, the Gold Glove-caliber center fielder stole his first bag of the year after a two-out single in the sixth inning. Young hasn't seen an everyday role to begin the season as the Nationals find ways to get the red-hot Joey Wiemer into the lineup, but he's started four of the team's first six games, going 3-for-14 with a double, a homer, two runs and two RBI.
-
Joey Wiemer WAS CF
Nationals' Joey Wiemer: On base three more times
10h agoWiemer went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Phillies.
The 27-year-old continued his blistering start to the season. Wiemer has started five of the Nationals' first six games and racked up a .588/.682/1.059 slash line in 22 plate appearances with a triple, two homers, four RBI, seven runs and a 5:4 BB:K. Nothing in Wiemer's track record suggests he'll keep up anything close to that pace -- he sports a career 29.2 percent strikeout rate against an 8.6 percent walk rate in the majors -- but he's providing exceptional production so far for deep-league fantasy GMs who took a chance on him.
-
Jesus Sanchez TOR RF
Blue Jays' Jesus Sanchez: Rewinding swing mechanics
11h agoSanchez has been working to get back to the swing he had earlier in his career, rather than the one he was using last season with the Marlins and Astros, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
The 28-year-old initially hit the big leagues in 2020 with a more upright stance, but over the years Sanchez's bat became parallel to the ground and he adopted a bit of a crouch. Blue Jays hitting coach David Popkins has helped him return to more natural, comfortable mechanics at the plate, and the early results have been very positive -- Sanchez has gone 6-for-16 over his first five games with Toronto with a homer, four RBI and a 2:2 BB:K. Sanchez also got his first start of the year against a left-handed pitcher Wednesday as he tries to break out of a strict platoon role. He's never slugged more than 18 homers in a season or posted an OPS over .777 in anything close to a full campaign (he managed an .808 OPS in 64 games for Miami in 2021), but the Jays believe Sanchez has more offense to unlock.
-
Wilyer Abreu BOS CF
Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Hot stick continues
11h agoAbreu went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Astros.
Abreu belted his third home run of the season in the eighth inning. While his teammates are struggling, Abreu has stood out as the team's best weapon at the plate. He's hit safely in five of six games, with multiple hits in four of them, and is 10-for-24 (.417) with three doubles, three home runs and six RBI.

-
Michael Wacha KC SP

-
Jose Butto SF SP
Giants' Jose Butto: Lands on IL
3h agoThe Giants placed Butto on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right forearm fatigue, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Butto made an early exit from his appearance against the Padres on Wednesday due to a forearm issue, and he'll now spend at least the next couple of weeks on the injured list getting his forearm back to full strength. Blade Tidwell will come up from Triple-A Sacramento to take Butto's place in the bullpen.
-
Valente Bellozo COL SP
Rockies' Valente Bellozo: Recalled to majors
3h agoThe Rockies recalled Bellozo from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.
With Jose Quintana (hamstring) headed for the injured list, the Rockies will call upon Bellozo to fill the void in their starting rotation. The 26-year-old failed to make the Opening Day roster after posting a 6.32 ERA in the Cactus League, and he got off to a poor start in Triple-A by allowing three runs in three innings during his first outing with the Isotopes. Assuming he slides right into Quintana's place in the rotation, Bellozo is due to make his Rockies debut Saturday against the Phillies in front of the home crowd.
-
Jose Quintana COL SP
Rockies' Jose Quintana: Placed on injured list
3h agoThe Rockies placed Quintana on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right hamstring strain, retroactive to Monday.
Quintana allowed two earned runs over 4.1 innings during his Rockies debut on Sunday, but he appears to have come away from his start with a hamstring injury. He'll miss his next couple of turns through the rotation as a result, though it remains unknown if he'll need more than a minimum-length stay on the IL. Valente Bellozo was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move and figures to take Quintana's place in the rotation.

Colin Poche DET RP
Colin Poche: Released by Tigers
4h agoThe Tigers released Poche on Thursday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Poche never appeared in a Grapefruit League game after signing an NRI deal with the Tigers in February, and the team will now decide to move on from him rather than stash him away in their farm system. Poche allowed 13 earned runs in just 9.1 innings in the majors last season and finished the year with a 5.40 ERA across 16.2 minor-league frames.
-
Phil Bickford DET RP
Phil Bickford: Let go by Detroit
4h agoThe Tigers released Bickford (triceps) on Thursday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Bickford signed a minor-league deal with the Tigers in January and was a non-roster invitee to spring training, but he never pitched in a game due to a triceps injury. He'll now look for another opportunity in the free-agent market, but he may have a hard time landing with another team until his triceps issue clears up.
-
Ryan Loutos SEA RP
Ryan Loutos: Released by Seattle
5h agoThe Mariners released Loutos on Thursday.
Loutos cleared waivers after being designated for assignment, but the Mariners have elected to move on from the reliever rather than outright him. The right-hander has had a rough go of it in his brief time in the majors the last two seasons, posting a 10.67 ERA and 8:9 K:BB over 14.1 innings.
-
Cody Bradford TEX RP
Rangers' Cody Bradford: Starting rehab assignment
6h agoBradford (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.
It will be Bradford's first official game action since he underwent an internal brace procedure on his left elbow last June. The left-hander will need most, if not all, of the allotted 30 days on his rehab assignment, but if all goes well he could be ready to pitch for the Rangers around May 1. Whether the Rangers use Bradford as a starter or reliever upon his activation could depend on what the team's needs are at the time.

Tigers' Scott Effross: Resuming mound work
7h agoEffross (oblique) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Effross suffered a left oblique strain in early March and is finally ready to throw off the mound again. The sidearming reliever has struggled from a health and results perspective in recent years but will give the Tigers some experienced bullpen depth at Triple-A Toledo once he's healthy.

Tigers' Tyler Owens: Making rehab appearance
7h agoOwens (hip) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland on Saturday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Owens is working his way back from arthroscopic right hip surgery after re-signing with the Tigers on a minor-league contract. The righty got a cup of coffee in the majors last season and should join the Triple-A Toledo bullpen once he's deemed physically ready.

Bryce Harper PHI DH
Phillies' Bryce Harper: Hits first homer of season
14h agoHarper went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and a strikeout in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Nationals.
Harper has endured a slow start to the season with only three hits in 27 plate appearances, but he was finally able to break through Wednesday with his first homer. Harper now has hits in each of the past two games, and it's too early to make much of the fact that he's hitting .120 with a .425 OPS through the first six games of the season.

Josh Bell MIN DH
Twins' Josh Bell: Connects for first homer
20h agoBell went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, two walks and three total runs scored in Wednesday's 13-9 loss to the Royals.
Bell has gone 3-for-15 (.200) with four walks and seven strikeouts over his first five games this season. All three of his hits have gone for extra bases (two doubles, one homer). The 33-year-old is getting steady playing time as the Twins' designated hitter, but he's batted no higher than fifth in the order after being viewed as a potential cleanup hitter late in spring training.

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Next start scheduled April 8
1d agoDodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Wednesday that Ohtani is scheduled to make his next start in the team's series finale against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, April 8, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.
The Dodgers plan on deploying a six-man rotation during the upcoming six-game road trip by mixing in a start for southpaw Justin Wrobleski, which means the next time Ohtani takes the mound will be during next week's World Series rematch. Ohtani dominated in his pitching debut against the Guardians on Tuesday, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out six across six scoreless innings to earn the win. Per Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com, Ohtani holds the longest regular-season scoreless streak among active pitchers at 22.2 innings, dating back to the 2025 campaign.

Giancarlo Stanton NYY DH
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Grabbing breather Wednesday
1d agoStanton is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Seattle.
Stanton will receive his first day off of the season after picking up exactly two hits in each of the Yankees' first five games. Ben Rice will get a day off from first base but will stick in the lineup at designated hitter in Stanton's stead.

Joc Pederson TEX DH
Rangers' Joc Pederson: Idle against southpaw
1d agoPederson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
The left-handed-hitting Pederson has now hit the bench for each of the Rangers' first three matchups versus southpaws, which doesn't come as a major surprise with the 33-year-old having produced a 79 wRC+ over 668 career plate appearances against lefties. Andrew McCutchen is expected to serve as Pederson's primary platoon mate this season, but Brandon Nimmo will be in the designated-hitter spot Wednesday while McCutchen draws his first start in right field.

Shohei Ohtani LAD DH
Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Smooth in season pitching debut
2d agoOhtani (1-0) completed six scoreless innings in a win against Cleveland on Tuesday, allowing one hit and issuing three walks while striking out six batters. He also went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks as a batter.
The Dodgers opted to have Ohtani be the last of the team's five pitchers in the season-opening rotation to make a start, but he looked every bit an ace against the Guardians. The two-way star retired the first seven batters he faced and yielded just one hit (a Rhys Hoskins double) overall. Ohtani did put some additional runners on base with three walks and a hit-by-pitch, but he threw 54 of 87 pitches for strikes, so his control wasn't particularly shaky. In addition to the strong outing on the mound, he reached base three times, extending his regular-season on-base streak to 36 games dating back to last year. That's the longest active streak in the majors, as is his current regular-season 22.2-inning scoreless streak as a pitcher, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com. He hasn't hit a home run or stolen a base yet, but Ohtani continues to show why he's arguably baseball's -- and fantasy's -- most unique player.
